Electrocleaning & Electrograining

In many applications the surface condition of the aluminium is of major importantance. Often the first step in a reel-to-reel production process involving alminium (fe anodizing) is electrocleaning or electrograining. The cleaning/graining will remove dirt (e.g. processing lubricants) of the surface and/or introduce a specific surface roughness needed in the specific process.Typically these processes are driven by AC current and make use of either sulphuric or phosphoric acid solutions.

In many of these processes the mass transport is very important as an etch film of waste products is formed on the substrate. In the Elsyca simulations, the effects of the mass transport is combined with the turbulent fluid flow, temperature and electrical phenomena to give a very accurate and versatile model of the processes occuring during the AC electrocleaning or electrograining of aluminium.

Typical applications include the production of aluminium coils for packaging (e.g. drinking cans), automotive applications and building&construction industry and the production of lithographic plates for the printing industry.
