Elsyca's history

Elsyca is a Belgian company located closely to the capital of the European Union, Brussels.

Our history goes back to 1977 when the department of Electrical Engineering of the university of Brussels VUB (‘Vrije Universiteit Brussel’) got involved in the modelling of electrochemical cells. Professor Johan Deconinck of the VUB, at that time PhD student and currently Chairman of the Elsyca Board, started to model and validate the underlying physical laws ruling the performance of electrochemical cells. This resulted in a PhD thesis dedicated to the modelling of current density distributions and electrode shape change in electrochemical cells.

Collaboration with the world reknown VKI (von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics) from 1991 onwards extended existing knowledge with sophisticated models of mass and charge transfer. In 1992, research efforts intensified through funding from the European Community (BRITE-EURAM projects in collaboration with Corus, Bekaert, Philips and Bosch).

Elsyca was founded in 1997 as a commercial company, spin-off from the VUB and the VKI. Already in 1998, a first commercial software tool, Elsyca Elsy2D, was released.

In its first years, Elsyca grew aligned with its continuously growing customer portfolio, based upon sound internal investments in development, innovation and organization.

In 2003, Elsyca decided to attract venture capital in order to accelerate its software development and sales & marketing strategy, and to safeguard the required investments in Intellectual Property rights.

In June 2004, another milestone was written. Elsyca commercially released a unique and revolutionary 3D simulation tool named Elsyca PlatingMaster. Elsyca PlatingMaster is a user-friendly, CAD (SolidWorks) integrated tool for electrochemical plating process simulation and optimization. This approach bridges the gap between design, engineering and manufacturing of products with respect to plating optimization.

Since the release of the first software solutions in 1998 and the continuous knowledge accumulation through our customer engineering projects, Elsyca has followed a steady growth path in the electrochemical industry. With our ongoing R&D projects on European level, we’re able to meet your highest requirements, also in the future.
